• The famous red telephone box was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in 1924 for a competition held by the British Post Office.
• The winning design became known as the K2 kiosk (Kiosk No. 2), made of cast iron and painted a distinctive bright red so it could easily be seen on city streets.
• Later versions like the K6 model spread across the UK and British territories — more than 70,000 were installed at their peak!
• Even though mobile phones have replaced landlines, many of these booths have been preserved as cultural icons or repurposed — some now serve as mini libraries, art displays, or Wi-Fi hotspots.
• Their bright red color, crowned top, and classic design make them an enduring symbol of British identity and nostalgia.
